partners in innovation
Friends of PCDworks,

Are you fascinated with the hottest new technology? So are we -- and we're going to start sharing what we learn with you each month. First up, a "hot" new idea that could open the door to smaller, cooler and faster computers.

You'll also hear what our material science department is up to, and Mike shares his thoughts on the real cost of this recession-- the loss of innovation.

Let us know what you'd like to hear about next month, and be sure to forward this newsletter on to others who may enjoy reading along!

PCDworks materials sciences department up for a challenge
Got any explosive new ideas you'd like to try out? Our growing materials science department is up for the challenge.

Recently, we've been deeply immersed in powder metallurgy. One project involves a proprietary design which uses titanium and aluminum powder and plates to create a lightweight armor plate.  Further improvements being studied use carbon nanotubes to provide greater strength without significant weight gains.

Additionally, we have been working with a ballistics company to use powder metallurgy and custom manufacturing processes to create better ballistics for unique applications.

Give us a shot at your biggest challenge - and we'll find a way to solve it.

More people are enamored with the idea of instant celebrity than with hard work, determination and higher education

Mike Profile
It's finally gotten to me. I have given up on innovation, invention, small business, hard work and sacrifice as a means of rescue. I don't mean rescue from our current economic tribulation; I mean rescue from economic and social misery.

From the current tenor of discourse in this society, it has become obvious that it is only the shrillness of the shout, or the image on the Facebook page that carries the day. It is neither the facts nor the truth, but only how virulent the outrage that one side can manufacture importance.

I used to believe we could be a society of innovators, of entrepreneurs, of small business folk all working together to better our lives and the lives of others. I am astounded at my own delusions. It seems we have become a society of carpers, petty grabbers after limited resources and companies and groups who live a zero-sum game... More people are enamored with the idea of instant celebrity than with hard work, determination and higher education.

hotHot New Technology
cell phone labHeat management of electronics has a huge impact on how many devices are designed and perform. Many electronic components generate heat while in operation, and this heat has to be removed from the system.
This new and exotic composite of diamond and copper greatly improves the transfer of heat away from high temperature components, offering potential for great improvements in performance and size of many different electric devices.

While it's still very new, look for this and similar materials to open the door for smaller, cooler, and faster computers in the coming years.
